The Coronovirus distracts us from the painstaking reality of life, the flu itself just adding to the burdens faced in a chaotic world.
If we weren’t informed we would be ignorant.
I sleep with my blinds open.
I used to cover my ears and eyes, the news dictates a sour mood.
Yesterday one of my friends from Nigeria asked for my comfort. I tried my best but what can you do when something is in God's hands? I tried to do my duty as a friend but I wish I could rescue him (who am I kidding? I’m still figuring out this adult world).
I’ve almost become desensitised to the news, I say almost as I sometimes still cry.
They won’t apologise for taking innocent lives!
Some of us are barely making it. Covid doesn’t make things easier according to the ‘The Mental Health of Children and Young People in England 2020’ report one in six children had endured mental health issues this summer compared to one in nine in 2017. A third of 11-22 year olds had admitted that isolation had made their lives a little worse and one in twenty of them had said it made their lives much worse.
But Covid isn’t the only thing we are tackling, the Americans have their presidential election, Nigeria has SARS,Ethiopia has tribalism and the dam and we have Brexit.
Sometimes I feel that Covid is a distraction from the real chaos that we’re failing to manage.
On Monday, in my language seminar the topic was Englishes, some might have the opinion that English is deteriorating and others believe it is expanding. What I know is when I converse with my american and canadian friends I sometimes don’t understand them.
One of my Canadian friends had remarked ‘He never said anything but glowing things about you.’
What does glowing mean?
You might not be familiar with canadian slang, she assumed it was international as I often do with British word choices.
I hope I can be intentional with my conversations, I’ve emailed two people for my live journalism class so I can interview at least one of them.
There are a few things on my mind I wish to discuss with them….
